John Sigmond allegedly raped J.B. Moore’s twelve-year-old daughter on September 7, 1889. Sigmond worked for Moore as a farm laborer. Moore said he found Sigmond in his daughter’s room. After Moore reported Sigmond, authorities arrested him. On the way to jail a mob of 75 abducted Sigmond. Three days later citizens found Sigmond’s body tied to a tree with bullet wounds.
