Description: Color print. This map of Beaufort harbor was prepared by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey under the supervision of Leo Otis Colbert (1883-1968). It was first published in February 1937 and reissued in March 1939. This is the 1939 edition with corrections to 1944. The map depicts the inlet and harbor, as well as portions of Bogue Sound, Newport River, North River, and Back Sound. Soundings are given for all the waterways portrayed, and the ship channel is marked by broken lines. Information relating to tides, buoys, and abbreviations used is found in text appearing in the upper left of the map. Inland detail includes cities and towns, roads, railroads, forts, lighthouses, and marshes.
